Hanahan is centrally located in the southern most part of Berkeley County bordered to the west and south by the City of North Charleston and to the east by the Naval Weapons Station (Joint Base Charleston). The Goose Creek Reservoir centers Hanahan offering a mixture of water sports as well as deep water access via the Cooper River. The central location, former blue ribbon schools and lower home prices make Hanahan very appealing to families.
Things to Do in Hanahan
Hanahan is a very popular community for families. Award winning schools and a very active set of family friendly activities and recreational sports via the Hanahan Recreation Department provide year round entertainment. Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Football, Summer Camps and more are popular activities among families and adults. The City of Hanahan holds multiple events throughout the year including: Red, White and Blue Festival, Tree Lighting Festival, Concerts and Movies in the Park as well as town Christmas and Homecoming Parades that allow entries by citizens. In addition to the public events Hanahan’s local businesses have regular activities including Bingo, Biker Nights at LG’s By The Creek and Trivia Night at Taco Loco.

If those activities aren’t enough to keep you busy don’t worry, the community is centrally located you can be to any of the other activities and Attractions around town in a matter of minutes.
Dining in Hanahan
Hanahan is very close to Park Circle, Goose Creek, Daniel Island and only 20 minutes from Downtown Charleston or Summerville so there are a lot of options for great dining nearby. Within the City our favorite spots are more about people watching, events and family fun time. Our Insider’s have shared our some great spots to eat close to home.

Hanahan is located in the Berkeley County School District. The primary schools for Hanahan include:
Hanahan Elementary is located on the west side of the Goose Creek Reservoir and has been the primary Elementary school in the community for many years. With a new school being opened in 2018 Hanahan students will be split between two Elementary schools for the first time. Hanahan Elementary is a former Blue Ribbon school and is highly rated by the State of South Carolina.
Bowen’s Corner is a brand new Elementary school opening in August of 2018. The school is located near Tanner Plantation on the east side of the Goose Creek Reservoir and will serve the Tanner Plantation, Hanahan Plantation, The Reserve, Lurrel Hill and newer neighborhoods being built in the area. This new school will mean some neighborhoods previously sent to Goose Creek Primary will now be rezoned and attend Bowen’s Corner.

Hanahan Middle School is located on Murray Drive in established areas of the community. It is a former Blue Ribbon school and gets high ratings from the State of South Carolina. It offers multiple programs including Gifted and Talented and Gateway to Technology.
Hanahan High School is also on Murray Drive on the southwest side of the Goose Creek Reservoir. Students are mostly residents of the community with some from nearby Daniel Island. HHS is a former Blue Ribbon school and rakes highly with the County and State among public High Schools. HHS is one of the High Schools around the Charleston Area to offer TEALS sponsored Computer Science classes.
Homes and Builders
Hanahan has a mixture of mid-century homes on one side of the Cooper River and Goose Creek Reservoir with newer master-planned communities such as Tanner Plantation, The Reserve and Hanahan Plantation on the other. New Home buyers will find options with new Communities such as Timbercrest by David Weekly Homes, Estuary by Stanley Martin and Scenic Point by Lennar. Tanner Plantation is always active with several distinct neighborhoods, most of which offer amenities such as a pool.
